Welcome to Mt Buller!
Meet the Mummu Cycling and Factor Bikes teams at the Factor Bikes headquarters in Gardenvale, Melbourne at 7.30am. Free parking will be available.
We will then depart at 8am via spacious van transfer 2.5 hours into Mansfield.
*Please note that the necessary extra hygiene and spacing protocols will be applied during travel and at all times on tour.
At Mansfield, the riding adventures will begin – our target for the day, the epic Mt Buller!
Following a spot of morning tea and a coffee, it’ll be time to kit up and get bikes dialled, with the help of the Factor Bikes pro mechanic.
Your guide and tour host, Baden Cooke will then lead the way, backed by our expert ride guides and support vehicles with food, water, electrolytes and ride nutrition at the ready. We’ll start out at a nice relaxed pace for the opening 30km ride into the base of the mighty climb.
From there, Baden will set the pace to get things going. Ride the lengthy 15km ascent at your own pace, and within your comfort zone or put the hammer down if you feel up to it – the choice is yours! Averaging 6%, it won’t be an easy effort, however support will be on hand where you need and the feeling atop will be incredibly rewarding. The perfect way to kick start an epic weekend!
On arrival to the summit, the day’s work will be complete. Sit back and enjoy the view! It’ll be time to check-in to our incredible accommodation atop, freshen-up and relax before regathering for a welcome group dinner hosted by Baden.
Now will mark a great opportunity to get to know Baden and your fellow guests, chat all things cycling, toast to today’s opening efforts and a big weekend on the pedals to come.
One for the Gravel Grinders!
This morning, enjoy a decent breakfast to ensure you’re fuelled and ready for a solid day!
After breakfast, Baden and Factor Bikes Technical Director Andy Naylor will be sharing their expert advice, experience and pro knowledge with you running a gravel skills session.
Prepare yourself to learn the tricks of the trade, talk all things ‘dirt’, bike handling, descending, cornering and more.
Post session, you’ll no doubt be well and truly fired up to hit the gravel running!
Mt Buller is surrounded by some amazing gravel trails and routes. Be ready to be amazed as Baden leads the way on a gorgeous, yet testing 75km adventure!
Along the way, we’ll make a pit stop for a picnic lunch to replenish our efforts and enjoy the views.
Post ride, take some time out to refresh and unwind. You’ll then be treated to a deserved 20 minute
massage that’ll be just enough to flush your legs out and give you that added recovery boost you’ll need come tomorrow!
This evening, we’ll enjoy a group dinner to cheers and reminisce on today’s epic!
One for the Gravel Grinders!
One last climb, then wine and dine!
This morning, following breakfast and check-out, pre-ride Baden will be holding a ‘bike handling and training’ seminar.
Here, you’ll be able to learn in detail from one of Australia’s best former road sprinters. Baden raced professionally for 13 years and competed for some of the world’s top World Tour teams throughout. Having won the prestigious Green Jersey at the Tour de France in 2003, it’s fair to say he knows how to hit the finish line first and has some handy tips to share on bike handling! He’ll be offering advice and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have throughout. Descending technique, sprinting, cornering…the works.
He’ll go on to discuss training methods, what worked for him, what’s the go in pro cycling today and what may work for you.
We’ll then put your learnings to the test by heading out for our final ride over to Whitfield where we’ll throw in some structured intervals along the way to really get the legs burning…if you have energy left to spare!
The 95km point-to-point ride will be led by Baden through some stunning high country terrain.
Get set to give your legs one last hit-out as we hit the slopes of the 8.5km Mt Tolmie.
Rest assured, your efforts will be rewarded well as we complete the ride at Whitfield’s Dalzotto wines that overlooks the High Country with stunning views and a very decent drop of vino to pair.
Here, you’ll be able to freshen up and change before we kick back to enjoy one final toast and an incredible meal to close out the trip on a high.
We will then transfer you back to Melbourne, before saying our goodbyes.
We trust you’ve had a great weekend on tour and hope to have you back on future domestic or international tours with us soon!
