This morning we welcome you on your Pyrenees adventure at the nearby Toulouse airport. After some meet and greets we will transfer you to our hotel in Lourdes at the base of the Pyrenees mountains.
The drive to our hotel is roughly two hours, once we arrive we will have already checked you into your room so you can freshen up and relax. While you do that your Mummu staff will prepare your bikes, ready for an afternoon ride through the valley to stretch the legs.
This evening we will head to dinner as a group to discuss the exciting week ahead!
Todays ride:- 40km easy ride to warm up the legs
After breakfast this morning we will get on our bikes and make our way down the valley towards our first big climb of the tour. Just 15km from our hotel we will come to the foot of the Hautacam, a 14km climb averaging 6.5%. This will be a good mountain to test our climbing legs for the days to come.
Once at the summit, we will descend down into the town of Argeles Gazost – a quaint village town in at the base of the mountains. We will stop for lunch where you will find many options in the main square before getting back on our bikes for the short ride back to Lourdes.
The afternoon and evening are at your leisure, a great opportunity to visit the grotto, a famous pilgrimage site for Catholics around the world.
Todays ride:- 60km, including climb to Hautacam. Long ride option also available
Col du Tourmalet
As the tour is back on the road and making its way toward the Pyrenees after a rest day, we will enjoy another day tackling the beautiful Pyrenees mountains. Today is the iconic Col du Tourmalet, an 18km climb from the town of Luz-Saint-Sauveur. Featured in the Tour no less than 79 times, this mountain has many stories to tell, today you too will add a story!
As the climb to the summit of the Tourmalet will take most of the morning, we will have lunch a the summit before making our way back to Lourdes in the early afternoon.
Todays ride:- 80km, difficult – includes climb to Col du Tormalet
Col du Tourmalet
After a few days in the Pyrenees ourselves, the peloton will arrive this afternoon into Pau and we will ensure we are at the finish line to greet them!
After a late breakfast we will make our way north in the van (or an earlier departure on the bike if your legs are up for it!) to intersect the official course for today’s stage. We will ride on the official course towards the finish line in Pau just hours before the pros and stage our own finish across the finish line on closed roads, cheered on by the fans waiting for the ‘other’ race to come by.
After crossing the finish line we will have the opportunity to take a photo on the official Tour de France podium before getting roadside to see the finish of the stage, only metres from the finish line!
Todays ride:- rolling hills, 40km/80km
We check out of our hotel after breakfast and begin to make our way towards the eastern Pyrenees mountains as the race makes its way to the airport runway atop of the Peyregudes, once used in a James Bond film.
Our ride today will see us make our way towards one of the category climbs of today’s stage. We will stop towards the top of the climb where the Mummu staff will have set up a great location for lunch and to see the Tour de France as it makes its way over a mountain pass. You will remember today for year’s to come, as the atmosphere on the mountain and pain on the riders faces as they fight for the stage and overall victory!
After the race passes we will complete our climb before transferring in the van to our new accommodation. Once settled in, we will enjoy dinner as a group before getting a well earned nights rest!
Todays Ride:- 60-80km, hard mountain climbs
Today is the last of the Pyrenees mountain stages before the race heads towards the Alps and we have organised VIP hospitality for you to enjoy another enthralling stage! Today is also extra special for the French as they celebrate Bastille day, their national holiday. The roads will surely be packed and no doubt Thomas Vockler will be out to win the stage in his final Tour appearance.
After breakfast we will begin our ride for the day as we make our way on the official Tour de France course, with our destination being Le Tours premier hospitality location, Relais Etape. We will be greeted with champagne on arrival before enjoying a three course lunch, hosted by Tour de France personalities. We will be roadside so will catch the tour live as it passes us enroute to the finish line in Foix. There will also be a live TV broadcast so we don’t miss any of the action!!
At the conclusion of the days stage we will transfer back to our hotel where we will enjoy our final meal as a group before our tour ends in the morning.
Todays Ride:- 60km, medium difficulty, including category 1 climb
Pre Departure Village before departure
Today marks the final day of our Pyrenees trip, but there is still plenty more of the Tour to see before we bid farewell.
We will be up early for breakfast and checkout in order to make our way to Blagnac, the departure village for today’s stage. Through our official operator status we will ensure you get behind the scenes before a Tour stage as the riders and teams prepare for the stage ahead. See the riders sign on, warm up and perhaps even have a coffee or a haircut before the stage begins.
The race will begin around midday, and it is after the race departs when we will transfer you to Toulouse airport to say our final farewell.
We hope you’ve enjoyed your Mummu Cycling tour and look forward to seeing you soon!
Vive Le Tour!
