2021 Santos Festival of Cycling

Our favourite race down under, although slightly different, will be making a return in 2021 as the Santos Festival of Cycling. We will be there with bells on and cannot wait to get right amongst the action as Australia’s best male and female cyclist’s line up to conquer the most iconic roads of Adelaide.

The Festival will include four days of thrilling racing that will travel over some of Adelaide’s most challenging, yet stunning vineyard-dotted terrain, including the Barossa, the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu regions, as well as a must Stage finish up the infamous Willunga Hill!

As an authorised Travel Partner of the event and with our own Stuart O’Grady as Race Director, we promise to deliver an unforgettable tour, that will include the best access to the race – from starts, finishes and at pinnacle points mid-course, to daily guided rides led and supported by our expert, experienced team, paired with incredible wining & dining experiences, and beyond.

Day 1

Welcome to Adelaide + Stage 1 action in the Barossa!

January 21, 2021 / Difficulty

Welcome to Adelaide and the start of your Santos Festival of Cycling experience!

The Mummu Cycling team will collect you at 9am from the Adelaide airport*. We will then transfer to our premium accommodation at the Hilton hotel, nestled right within Adelaide’s humming CBD, and a place you’re near guaranteed to bump into a famous face or three of the professional cycling world…

On arrival, take some time to check-in and settle, before meeting the Mummu team in our allocated bike room, who will assist with building and setting up bikes ahead of our opening ride.

We will then gather for a casual welcome brief and discuss the day to come, before rolling out to catch some Santos Festival of Cycling Stage 1 action!

Today’s ride will be 77km from the hotel to our stage viewing location at the reputable Harvest Kitchen, based within the gorgeous Barossa Valley at the bottom of Menglers Hill, where we’ll see the race pass by four times!

Following an undulating, scenic ride out to the Barossa, led by our experienced ride guides and supported by the Mummu Cycling follow vehicles (with ride nutrition, water, electrolytes and mechanical assistance on hand), you will arrive well and truly ready for an incredible lunch, paired with stunning local wines as we await the women’s and men’s races to blitz right by us in a valiant bid for Stage 1 honours.

We’ll then catch the finish into Tanunda from big screen entertainment, before transferring back to the Hilton.

Take some time to relax and freshen up before kitting up for this evening’s welcome cocktail function, where you’ll enjoy complementary drinks and nibbles and a chat to some BIG names of the sport.

The evening will then be at your leisure to enjoy the Festival atmosphere, and take your pick from Adelaide’s amazing selection of bars and restaurants, within close walking distance to the hotel.

Witness the Stage 2 Finish LIVE in Lobethal

This morning, enjoy a gourmet breakfast at the hotel to fuel well for today’s ride into the heart of the testing Adelaide Hills!

Today, we’ll be riding right through the best of them, to the Stage 2 finish in Lobethal. On arrival, we’ll then continue on to ride a lap of the Fox Creek finishing circuit, presenting a fantastic opportunity to ride on course and get a feel for what’s to come for the pros.

Concluding a big effort through the hills, it’ll be time to settle in at the Mummu marquee, primly positioned at the finish (where numbers are strictly limited). Here, you’ll have the opportunity to change and freshen up, before enjoying a gourmet picnic lunch, paired with cool beverages as we await the women’s and men’s races to come storming home, all eyes on the Stage 2 victory!

Prepare to be amazed at the sheer speed of the peloton, likely very whittled down following the challenging stage they’ll face from Birdwood – Lobethal.

After what we expect will be a thrilling battle in both fields, we will transfer back to the Hilton.

Enjoy some time to put your feet up, relax and unwind. The evening will then be yours free to explore Adelaide’s humming city streets and enjoy dinner at your leisure.

Today, we’ll be transferring to the Stage 2 finish in Lobethal. On arrival, it’ll be time to settle in at the Mummu marquee, primly positioned at the finish (where numbers are strictly limited). Here, you’ll have the opportunity to change and freshen up, before enjoying a gourmet picnic lunch, paired with cool beverages as we await the women’s and men’s races to come storming home, all eyes on the Stage 2 victory!

Prepare to be amazed at the sheer speed of the peloton, likely very whittled down following the challenging stage they’ll face from Birdwood – Lobethal.

After what we expect will be a thrilling battle in both fields, we will transfer back to the Hilton.

Willunga Hill Day!

Enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel this morning to prepare for a BIG day on the pedals as we head out to the iconic Willunga Hill, so famous to the race!

Today we’ll be riding out via a gorgeous rolling scenic route along the coast, and into the hills, passing by idyllic wine country as we approach Willunga, where we’ll be based for the day at a prime viewing spot up the climb.

Following a solid ride out, you’ll also have the opportunity to test yourself up Willunga’s daring slopes, before riding back down to the Mummu marquee where we’ll be based for a serious dose of Stage 3 action!

Enjoy some time to replenish your efforts and kick back over a cool beer or beverage, paired with a delicious gourmet spread of canapés, filled rolls and fresh local produce.

It will then be time to prepare to get your cheer on as the pros approach the climb in full swing on a mission for victory up Willunga! Today’s the day where the race will undoubtedly be well and truly rocked as the best riders make it reign up the climb and we’ll be right there to witness those tour winning moments!

Following what we are confident will be a very exciting afternoon out at the Santos Festival of Cycling, we will transfer back to the Hilton.

Take some time to reset, before regathering for this evening’s group dinner at a reputable local restaurant. Here, you’ll be joined by a surprise guest and another big name of the sport, who will join you in talking all-things Santos Festival of Cycling, with the final day of racing now upon us!

Willunga Hill Day!

January 23, 2021

Enjoy a good breakfast at the hotel this morning to prepare for a BIG day out at the Santos Festival of Cycling as we head out to the iconic Willunga Hill, so famous to the race!

Mid-morning we will transfer to our prime viewing spot up the climb to settle in for some Stage 3 Willunga action.

While we await the women and men to show us how it’s done, relax over a cool beverage, paired with a delicious gourmet spread of canapés, filled rolls and fresh local produce.

It will then be time to prepare to get your cheer on as the pros approach the climb in full swing on a mission for victory up Willunga! Today’s the day where the race will undoubtedly be well and truly rocked as the best riders make it reign up the climb and we’ll be right there to witness those tour winning moments!

Following what we are confident will be a very exciting afternoon out at the Santos Festival of Cycling, we will transfer back to the Hilton.

Day 4

The final showdown

This morning following breakfast, we will enjoy a day away from the hills as we venture out to Adelaide’s stunning coast on a 40km city to sea adventure.

After a solid few days in the hills, your legs will no doubt be crying out for some flatland and an easier day on the saddle. Today’s ride will be nice and relaxed, all about soaking up the sunshine and appreciating the glorious blue views as we go.

On arrival back to the hotel, freshen up before regrouping to transfer out to one of Adelaide’s top rated wineries for an indulgent winery lunch and a tasting to kick things off superbly, and to toast to what we expect has been a fantastic trip so far!

With a healthy glow on, we will then transfer to Victoria Park for some Stage 4 action, where today’s final twilight criterium will take place. Here, we have reserved seating at the start/finish where numbers are strictly limited, ensuring you’ll have the best viewing spot in the house to watch what will surely be a fast and furious final showdown. A day for the fastest sprinters to shine and perhaps one final fight for GC honours…

Following a thrilling finale, we will transfer back to the Hilton. The evening will be at your leisure to soak up the festival’s final evening atmosphere!

This morning following breakfast, we will transfer out to Adelaide’s famous coastal town of Glenelg to take in Adelaide’s glorious coastal views and enjoy a coffee while at it.

On arrival back to the hotel, take some time out before regrouping to transfer out to one of Adelaide’s top rated wineries for an indulgent winery lunch and a tasting to kick things off superbly, and to toast to what we expect has been a fantastic trip so far!

With a healthy glow on, we will then transfer to Victoria Park for some Stage 4 action, where today’s final twilight criterium will take place.
