2023 Cobbled Classics with Stuart O’Grady

The Classics truly are one of a kind. Cobbles, narrow roads, pavé, punishingly steep, short Belgian bergs and more cobbles….Combined with insanely passionate crowds of fans lining the streets in glorious cheer as the world’s best professional cyclists daringly go head-to-head in battle mode!

2023 promises to be bigger, better and more spectacular than ever!

Mummu Cycling will well and truly be part of the ‘Classics’ return on our traditional 11 day Cobbled Classics experience led by 2007 Paris-Roubaix champion Stuart O’Grady! Join us, and we promise to have you living and breathing every inkling of action; from the cobbled, undulating streets of the Tour of Flanders, through to the Queen of the Classics – the Hell of the North, Paris-Roubaix, where we’ll have you right amidst the thick of the lively atmosphere, within reach of the race.

When we’re not absorbing the madness of two of the most prestigious one day races across the calendar, we’ll be heading to beautiful Bruges in between to watch the Scheldeprijs live!

To top, you’ll be joined on tour by special guests of the pro peloton, including 3 x Flanders champion, Johan Museeuw with a few added surprises along the way…

This morning, the Mummu Cycling team will welcome you at Ghent train station at 10am before we transfer to our accommodation at the Marriott Hotel in Ghent.

Once checked in and settled at the hotel, our team will meet you in our allocated bike room, where we’ll ensure your bikes are set up and raring to go, before heading out on a short ride to stretch the legs ahead of tomorrow’s Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclo.

We will head to dinner as a group this evening, hosted by Stuart O’Grady. A great opportunity for us all to get to know one another and brief you on the exciting adventures ahead!

Welcome

March 31, 2023

This morning, the Mummu Cycling team will welcome you at Ghent train station at 10am before we transfer to our accommodation at the Marriott Hotel in Ghent.

Once you’ve checked in and freshened up, you’ll have the opportunity to discover the history and the hidden secrets of one of the most beautiful cities in Belgium, Ghent, on a see-it all free walking tour.

You’ll be mesmerised by the outstanding beauty of its quays and churches…Every house has its own history and every facade is hiding some legends behind. The city is well known for its incredible medieval architecture, striking city squares and marketplaces. A popular choice for university students, it’s consistently humming with atmosphere and charm. At the end of the tour, you’ll discover the historical ‘must see’s’ of Ghent, and by now you’ll surely have some great insight as to where the best local bars and restaurants are in town!

This evening, we will head to dinner as a group, hosted by Stuart O’Grady. A great opportunity for us all to get to know one another and brief you on the exciting week ahead!

Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclo (Flanders Sportif)

Following an early breakfast, we will transfer you to Oudenaarde, the start and finish location for the Ronde Van Vlaanderen Cyclo sportive ride. More than 10,000 people congregate in Oudenaarde each year to take part in this event – creating a festival-like atmosphere in town and pro inspired support throughout the race. Today is a unique opportunity to ride a similar course to the pros, taking on many iconic cobbled climbs famous to the race and the region, including; the Koppenberg, Oude Kwaremont and the brutally steep, Paterberg.

Stuart will be on hand to give you a briefing and exclusive tips on how to tackle the cobbled bergs you’re about to face! Once you have completed your chosen ride for the day, we will spend the afternoon in Oudenaarde enjoying the atmosphere and stalls at the exclusive fan zone located at the finish.

After a well-deserved Belgian beer and a bite to eat, we will transfer back to our hotel where the evening will be at your leisure, free to explore the humming city centre of Ghent.

Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclo (Flanders Sportif)

April 1, 2023

Following breakfast this morning, we will transfer you to Oudenaarde, the start and finish location for the Ronde Van Vlaanderen Cyclo sportive ride.

More than 10,000 people congregate in Oudenaarde each year to take part in this event – creating a festival-like atmosphere in town and pro inspired support throughout the race.

While our riding guests are on course, you’ll spend the day in the vibrant small city of Oudenaarde, enjoying the lively atmosphere and stalls at the exclusive fan zone located at the finish line of the sportive ride.

Following a busy day out, this evening will be at your leisure to relax and unwind, or explore the humming city centre!

Tour of Flanders (Ronde Van Vlaanderen)

A day the entire country of Belgium stops for has arrived! The 2023 edition of the Tour of Flanders takes place today, it is certain to be more EPIC than ever before. Brace yourself for a huge day out getting right amongst the madness.

Following breakfast this morning, we will transfer you to our prime race viewing location on the famous Oude Kwaremont cobbled climb! Here, you will have the opportunity to experience the incredibly lively atmosphere that Belgium never ceases to deliver, among like-minded, cycling-mad crowds of passionate fans – beer and frites in hand, of course!

A day with Johan Museeuw

This morning, we have a special treat in store…

Following breakfast, we’ll meet up with 3 x Paris-Roubaix and 3 x Flanders winner, Johan Museeuw!

Johan, known as the ‘Lion of Flanders’ in Belgium will lead today’s ride as we explore the roads of Flanders past, finishing on the iconic Muur van Geraardsbergen.

Concluding our ride, you will have the option to transfer back to our hotel via van or continue on bike.

Once back at the hotel and freshened up, Johan will join us for drinks in the bar where he’ll share some stories from his extraordinary career.

This evenings dinner will then be at your leisure before we head to gorgeous Bruges!

Today’s ride: 60km ride to Geerardsbergen – includes Kapelmur and Bosberg climbs

A day with Johan Museeuw

April 3, 2023

This morning, following breakfast, you will be off on your own adventure to the fascinating KOERS cycling museum.

Located in the heart of West Flanders in Roeselare, you’ll transfer 50 minutes to arrive.

Packed with incredible cycling memorabilia, history and many-a bike. The Belgian’s are as passionate as can be when it comes to cycling, and KOERS certainly showcases that. A must-see for all cycling fans!

Following your visit, you will transfer back to the hotel to meet with our riding contingent and the legendary Johan Museeuw – a 3 x Flanders and 3 x Paris-Roubaix champion, well regarded as ‘The Lion of Flanders’.

Here you’ll enjoy drinks and a chat with Johan, who will no doubt be sharing a tale or two from his extraordinary career.

This evenings dinner will then be at your leisure before we head to gorgeous Bruges!

Ghent - Bruges

Following breakfast this morning, we will check out of our hotel in Ghent and transfer out to De Panne via Bruges.

Today we will be enjoying a beautiful flat (!) 60km from Ghent to Brugge – hotel to hotel, how good!

Once the you arrive in Brugge, there will be time to grab some lunch and some local Belgian beer in town before we check in to our next hotel, NH Bruges where we’ll be saying for a few nights.

Tonight we’ll have a group dinner and talk all things Classics!

Ghent - Bruges

April 4, 2023

Following breakfast this morning, we will check out of our hotel in Ghent and transfer out to De Panne via Bruges.

Today we will be enjoying a beautiful drive (approx 1 hour) from Ghent to Brugge.

Once the riders arrive, there will be time to grab some lunch and some local Belgian beer in town before we check in to our next hotel, NH Bruges where we’ll be saying for a few nights.

Tonight we’ll have a group dinner and talk all things Classics!

Scheldeprijs

Today we’ll have our own rest day and enjoy some time off the bike.

Following a leisurely breakfast, we’ll transfer out to Schoten to watch the Scheldeprijs in Schoten!

We’ll pitch up at a local pub to watch the race roadside

There will be time to grab a classic Belgian pub lunch and some wheat beer to match, of course

Following the action of the stage, we’ll transfer back to Bruges where the night will be at your leisure

Scheldeprijs

Today the riders will enjoy some time off the bike.

Following a leisurely breakfast, we’ll all transfer out to Schoten to watch the Scheldeprijs in Schoten!

We’ll pitch up at a local pub to watch the race roadside

There will be time to grab a classic Belgian pub lunch and some wheat beer to match, of course

Following the action of the stage, we’ll transfer back to Bruges where the night will be at your leisure

Ride the roads of Flanders Past

April 6, 2023 / Difficulty
/ Distance 70km

After breakfast this morning we will check out of our hotel and transfer by van to the Valenciennes region in Northern France where we will get our first taste of the cobbles of Paris Roubaix. We will test our legs on the challenging surface – taking in some of the cobbled sectors not included in tomorrow’s sportive ride.

Be sure to pick Stuart’s brain on what to expect on the cobbled roads of the French countryside as they differ greatly from those in Flanders.

Following a solid day out in the saddle, we’ll transfer to Kortrijk and the evening will then be at your leisure to rest up or explore our surrounds.

Ride the roads of Flanders Past

April 6, 2023

Take this morning to relax and enjoy breakfast at your leisure before check out. We’ll then transfer to our last location – the beautiful historic parkhotel in Kortrijk.

Kortrijk is known as the City of the Golden Spurs, known for it’s mixture of medieval, heritage and modern aesthetics and architecture.

Take the day to unwind and explore the city, our guides will give you some restaurant and shopping recommendations.

Once the riders are back from their training ride, the evening will be at your leisure

Roubaix Velodrome VIP Visit + Pro Team Meet & Greet

This morning, we will jump in the vans and drive direct to the velodrome in Roubaix where Stuart has made special arrangements to give us a tour of the famous Roubaix showers – a privilege usually reserved only for past winners!

Following a tour and some photo opportunities in the iconic shower block alongside former race winner, Stuey, we’ll change into our gear, before setting off as a group to tackle some 5 star sectors of the Paris-Roubaix course, where we will test our legs on the challenging terrain ahead of tomorrows Roubaix Challenge.

Be sure to pick Stuart’s brain on what to expect on the cobbled roads of the French countryside as they differ greatly from those in Flanders. You’ll be doing a recon of key pavé sectors for tomorrow’s ride, to truly get a taste of what lies ahead! Note: you’ll be in for a bumpy ride!

En route back to our hotel, we will stop off for an exclusive Pro Team meet and greet with one of Stuey’s old teams. Here, we’ll hear their thoughts ahead of Sunday’s race and get an insight into the team’s race plan and strategies.

This evening will be yours free, to relax and unwind ahead of tomorrow’s early start, or explore our surroundings in Kortrijk.

While our riding guests tackle some cobbled sectors, we’ll enjoy lunch before reconnecting with them for an exclusive Pro Team meet and greet with one of Stuey’s old teams.

Here, we’ll hear their thoughts ahead of Sunday’s race and get an insight into the team’s race plan and strategies.

This evening will be at your leisure to relax and unwind or explore our surroundings in Kortrijk.

Roubaix Challenge

Today marks a very special occasion, riding the Paris-Roubaix challenge alongside a former champion of the race.

It is your opportunity to ride the very course the pros will tackle in only 24 hours’ time. You’ll conquer the famous cobbled sectors of Northern France, including the iconic; Mons-en-Pevele, Carrefour de l’Aarbe and of course, the daunting d’Arenberg Forest, all under the guidance of 2007 champion, Stuart O’Grady!

Following breakfast, we will transfer you by van to the start of the Paris-Roubaix Challenge ride in Roubaix.

Ride hard, but remember to enjoy every bit of it!

Concluding a tough 145km or 70km ride,  you will finish your Challenge in the famous Roubaix velodrome, where the Mummu Cycling ‘recovery tent’ will be waiting your arrival with gels, bars and of course, beers!

Following the sportive, you will also have the opportunity to visit the Paris-Roubaix museum.

We will then return to Kortrijk for dinner at your leisure. As you will have noticed, there will be several Pro Teams staying with us at the Parkhotel, so you may wish to reserve dinner there!

Roubaix Challenge

April 8, 2023

This morning, enjoy a much deserved later start and morning to yourself!

We’ll then make our way to a local establishment to enjoy a relaxed lunch before continuing on to Roubaix where we’re booked in for a beer tasting and tour at a Belgian micro brewery while we wait for the riding guests to complete the sportive. When in Belgium, right?!

Concluding the sportive, we’ll meet up with our riding contingent where you’ll also have the opportunity to visit the Paris-Roubaix museum.

We will then return to Kortrijk for dinner at your leisure. As you will have noticed, there will be several Pro Teams staying with us at the Parkhotel, so you may wish to reserve dinner there!

Day 10

The Hell of the North!

April 9, 2023 / Difficulty

The day has arrived. The Queen of the Classics is here!

2023 will be truly surreal, and we’ll be there to witness every moment of pain and beauty the Hell of the North brings!

We will start the day’s excitement by making our way to the mythical Trouée d’Arenberg, securing our place roadside to watch the peloton battle it out over the train lines and onto the narrow, gnarly cobble-lined roads.

Following the final rider, our VIP accredited vans will drive through roadblocks and onto the course towards the velodrome where we will take our place inside the Official VIP Hospitality on the first corner and await in nervous, excited anticipation for the leaders to come storming through.  Our VIP hospitality includes an open bar and lunch, live broadcast of the race on multiple screens and access to the velodrome lawn concluding the finish.

After seeing the 2023 Paris Roubaix champion crowned, we will make our way back to our accommodation for our last night. To celebrate and toast to 10 days of Classics adventures, we will enjoy a final group dinner!

The day has arrived. The Queen of the Classics is here!
