Day 1

Welcome to Lago di Como!

May 26, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 30km

Welcome to the Italy!

This morning our staff will meet you at Milan-Malpensa Airport to transfer to our hotel on Lake Como. While you freshen up, our expert mechanics will unpack and set up your bike, before a gentle roll along Lake Como to stretch the legs.

This afternoon we’ll watch the Stage 15 finish in Como LIVE to cheer on the Team Mitchelton-SCOTT boys!

Whilst there are some climbs in today’s stage none are too long or difficult to create much change in the GC. Today’s stage pays hommage to the one day classic ‘Lombardia’ covering many of the same roads so will likely see a similar rider to the winners of the classic, take out today’s stage. There will be a big reward for the rider willing to risk it all with a late break-away over the short steep hills towards the finish.

Over this evenings welcome dinner you’ll have the opportunity to chat to your tour host Stuey about the his predictions on how the race will unfold as the peloton head towards the finish in Verona.

Day 3

Mortirolo Summit Stage Pass

May 28, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 70km

The Queen stage of this years Giro will have the GC riders nervous all day as they tackle several climbs including the Gavia and Motirolo double. It’s a 40km uphill drag to the start of the Gavia, the climb proper is 17.3kms long, it is a beast topping out at over 2600mts with gradients hitting 16%.

It has featured in the race several times and will see some of the top 10 into difficulty. Sadly for those suffering the Mortirolo comes next, whilst shorter, it is even harder with pinches at 18% and overall of 10.5% It is regarded as the hardest climb in Italy by many pro cyclists. The descent off the Mortirolo is twisty and technical, look for an attempted break-away by the better descenders to gain a few extra seconds for the uphill run to the finish line

For those of us not in the Pro peloton, we’ll set off early for the a more relaxed climb up the Mortirolo, skillfully guided by your tour captain Stuey. Once we reach the summit the Mummu team will be waiting with refreshments and a roadside picnic lunch, where we’ll watch the riders, fresh from their rest day tackle this epic climb!

After the peloton pass by we’ll roll back to our hotel where the evening will be at your leisure.

Day 4

Group dinner with Stuart O'Grady

May 29, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 70km

After yesterday’s gruelling stage, today is no picnic either and will really test all of the contenders. They will need to be vigilant all day as apart from the first 20kms of downhill it is essentially uphill for the rest of the stage. The first climb will be a haven for a break-away, as whilst its a decent climb the gradient is not so difficult. As it features early in the day the GC teams won’t respond.

After a relaxed morning and breakfast we will set off via van to our next hotel, for those riding we will stop off in Trento along the way for coffee, then on to Bassano del Grappa where we jump on your bikes with Stuey to ride the last 70km to our new hotel.

After today’s relaxed ride we’ll enjoy a group dinner, where Stuey will share stories from his time at Giro d’Italia with team GreenEDGE (now team Mitchelton-SCOTT).
