Welcome to the Alps!

July 2, 2021 / Difficulty
/ Distance 30km / 18.6 miles - 650m / 2133ft

Welcome to France and the start of your Alps Ride Experience. We hope you’re as excited as we are to hit the mountains!

The Mummu Cycling team will collect you mid-morning from the Geneva airport/train station before transferring 1 hour to your accommodation right amidst the southeastern Alps on the top of Mont Blanc itself and in the authentic ski resort village of Megève.

On arrival, take some time to check-in and settle, before meeting the team in our allocated bike room, who will assist with assembling and fitting bikes ahead of your opening warm-up spin.

We will then have a short welcome briefing to discuss the ride and a BIG week through the Alps to come!

Before we roll out, enjoy some time to chill-out, explore our surroundings and grab a spot of lunch before kitting up for this afternoon’s ride.

You will then set out on a relaxed 30km scenic ride along beautiful surrounding roads, led by your guides for the week and followed by the Mummu Cycling support team who will be on hand for all rides, assisting with mechanics, and with ride nutrition, electrolytes and water at the ready!

Today’s ride will be all about spinning the legs post travel, getting used to new roads and ensuring bikes are ready to rock for some solid days on the horizon.

On arrival back to the hotel, if time allows, we’ll settle in to watch the Stage 7 finish together on TV over a cool beverage, before freshening up and relaxing ahead of this evening’s group welcome dinner and a toast to epic adventures through the Alps to come!

Conquer the Col de Saises & the Cormet de Roseland + Watch Stage 9 LIVE

July 4, 2021 / Difficulty
/ Distance 105km / 65.2 miles - 3630m / 11909ft

Following yesterday’s efforts, you’ll no doubt be eager for more! Rest assured – today you’ll be enjoying a cracking day on the pedals with some serious climbing and a dose of Tour de France mountain madness to pair.

Enjoy a substantial breakfast, kit up and put your day bag in the Mummu support van, before we roll out to ride along the challenging mountain-marred Stage 9 route, that travels from Clusaz to Tignes. Our hotel is conveniently located just minutes from the 26km mark along the route, so we’ll literally be rolling out straight onto the course!

Today, you’ll have the opportunity to tackle the biggest cols along the route – the 9.4km Col de Saises, the 12.6km Col du Pré and the 5.7km Cormet de Roseland, just hours ahead of the pros themselves…

Here, you’ll have the freedom to go as hard or as gently as you so desire up each climb. If you’re up for a challenge – your fit, fast ride guides will be happy to put you to the test! When you’re not busy hammering on the pedals, be sure to take in the atmosphere and the surreal views as you go.

We’ll go as far as we can along the course, before the race chasing us behind calls us to pull aside to settle in for some Stage 9 roadside viewing. Prepare to be mindblown as the pros battle by at unbelievable speeds, showing us exactly how it’s done at World Tour level!

Following a thrilling bit of stage viewing, it will be time to get back on the saddle for the journey home, where we’ll tackle the other sides of the Col du Pré and the Col de Saises, making a pit stop at a French brasserie to grab lunch at your leisure along the way…by now you’ve well and truly earned a chocolate croissant or two!

On arrival back to the hotel, enjoy some time to relax, put your feet up and unwind following a huge day out on the bike. The evening will then be yours free to chill out, or explore our mountain village surroundings.

Day 4

Tackle the iconic Col de la Madeleine, the epic Col du Glandon & the Col de la Croix de Fer

July 5, 2021 / Difficulty
/ Distance 82km / 51 miles - 2170m / 7119ft

Today is a rest day at the Tour de France, so your day will be all about riding, with some seriously iconic Alps ascents thrown in the mix!

Following breakfast and checkout, have your day bag on hand as we transfer to our ride start point.

Now, you’ll have the chance to summit a trio of testing bucket list climbs. Get your Garmin’s ready and your Strava set as we head straight for the iconic Col de la Madeleine that will be your first real challenge along the route and far from an easy start. The ascent has made a real name for itself in Tour de France history, its relentless gradients proving quite the test – ‘beautiful, but heartbreaking’…even for the pros. Get your climbing legs out and your game face on, as you hit the slopes of the 25km giant, averaging a steady 6.2% for its entirety and topping out at 2000m!

From there, you’ll enjoy the thrill of the lengthy descent off the other side to follow, as we make our way to the next big hurdle of the day, the infamous Col du Glandon – another truly epic Alps climb, dubbed as one of the toughest there is in France, known for its leg-zapping slopes, matched with killer scenery and views.

You’ll travel 19.8km up from the Northern approach, that has an average gradient of 7.3% – its summit sitting sky-high at 1924m.

Atop, take a breather to replenish those efforts with some ride nutrition before making your way over to its neighbour, Col de la Croix de Fer. By now, the extra 2.5km to reach its peak will undeniably feel incredibly tedious. Persevere, as the panoramic views atop are well worth the extra effort!

(At a point along the route, we will make a pitstop at a boulangerie to grab an easy lunch at your leisure).

Following a phenomenal effort, put your jacket on and enjoy the well deserved mammoth descent down the other side, followed by a final flat run (or transfer) through to our new hotel in the heart of the historic city centre of Grenoble.

On arrival, take some time out to rest following a HUGE day in the mountains. Later this evening, we’ll enjoy a group dinner to toast the day’s efforts, tell Alps tales and talk all things Tour de France!

Today, you’ll enjoy a much deserved flatter day, following several mammoth mountains days!

Flat, yet long and scenic, today will be all about enjoying our surroundings and spinning the legs before returning to the hills tomorrow.

Along the way, we’ll stop off at one of France’s most popular tourist destinations, the Pont du Gard. The ancient Roman aqueduct is a UNESCO Heritage Listed site and known as one of the best preserved three-tiered bridges in the world.

Along today’s scenic ride route, we’ll also make a pitstop at a handpicked local brasserie to enjoy a group lunch, talk all things TDF Stage 10 and race predictions.

Ride Mont Ventoux on RACE DAY!

July 7, 2021 / Difficulty
/ Distance 127km / 79 miles - 2200m / 7218ft

Prepare youself for a truly EPIC day out at the Tour de France! Today is the day that the iconic Mont Ventoux returns to the Tour where it belongs…

It’s been 5 years since its last appearance in the race, where Chris Froome oh so famously ‘ran’ up part of the climb. This year, it’s returning with a bang and we will be there to live it up to the max!

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will set out on bikes for our ride to the iconic ‘bald mountain’ that travels up to a tantalising 1912m. It’s RACE DAY, so the atmosphere will be on point as excited fans line the climb from bottom to top primed and ready for the stage action to unfold later day.

Today will be your final mountain test, so leave it all out on the road!

At the summit, take a moment to sit back and soak up the views, before we descend part of the way down the climb to our roadside viewing setup for the day where the Mummu marquee will be set up with cool drinks and a picnic lunch at the ready.

Today will no doubt be as thrilling as professional bike racing gets, as the best cyclist’s in the world battle it out two times up the mighty mountain.

Prepare to be amazed and cheer to your heart’s content as they slog it out up its tantalising slopes!

Following an insane afternoon of bike racing, we’ll ride/transfer back to Avignon where we’ll round out an incredible week through the Alps with a final group dinner.
