Dare to take on the best of the Pyrenees by bike and tick off bucket list iconic Tour de France climbs along the way?

Our Pyrenees Ride Experience, hosted by TdF lead-out-legend Nick Gates, will be all about k’s for day’s, conquering iconic Pyrenean cols and taking on the odd Strava KOM – if you please?!

Rides will be ‘pro level’ supported and led by former TdF rider and team Saxo Bank Director Sportive Nick Gates.

To add to epic rides, you will also experience the Mummu Cycling difference and engage with the biggest bike race of the year – the Tour de France, all while experiencing the best-of it yourself by bike.

Day 1

Welcome to the Pyrenees!

July 15, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 40km

This morning the Mummu Cycling staff will meet you at the Tarbes airport or train station and transfer you to our accommodation right in the heart of the Pyrenees – Luz-Saint-Sauveur . To keep things simple and low-stress, we will be based here for the week.

Once settled, we will prepare bikes and head out for a short afternoon ride to spin the legs out and prepare for a big week in the saddle conquering Tour de France cols!

This evening, we’ll enjoy a group welcome dinner, hosted by TdF lead-out-legend Nick Gates to get to know each other and cheers to an anticipated great week ahead.

Day 2

Hautacam Loop

July 16, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 64km

Today, concluding a good breakfast we will set out in pursuit of the testing Hautacam loop, including 1499m of climbing.

The famous Hautacam ascent is 15.8km in length and averages 6.8%, but with sections reaching 10%. Although a challenge, make sure you take a moment to enjoy the exceptional panoramic views of the Argeles Valley and the Val d’Azun as you make your way to the summit of the ‘Hors Categorie’ climb. 

Atop, we will enjoy lunch at the summit café and take time to recover for the the ride back to the hotel. 

This evening, dinner will be at your leisure allowing you the opportunity to explore the charming, historic town and wind down after a big day out on the bike.

Day 3

Col d’Aubisque and Col du Soulor

July 17, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 99km

Today will be big with the Col du Soulor and Col d’Aubisque on our radar! Following breakfast we will depart for the start of our 99km adventure, totalling 2116m of ascent.

Up first will be Col du Soulor followed by the popular Col d’Aubisque – the second most visited Tour de France climb, behind the Tourmalet, in the history of the race and certainly a must-do for your bucket list!

The Col du Soulor is a real Tour de France classic and one of the famous ‘Circle of Death’ climbs. Peaking at 1474m – we can safely assume you’ll be warmed up come the summit. We descend now to enjoy the stunningingly beautiful stretch of Pyrenean road – Cirque du Litor separating the two climbs before the real fun begins.

Col d”Aubisque is just over 16km in length, averaging 7.2% and rising to 1,709m – we’re confident there will be some weary yet satisfied legs at the summit!. Enjoy the sensational views atop as you prepare for the descent.

We’ll make a pit stop for an easy lunch on route and concluding the ride, dinner will be at your leisure.

Day 4

Stage Finish

July 18, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 100km

This morning we will have an early start to the day as we ride to the Stage 12 Finish in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and soak up the incredible official Tour de France Finish town atmosphere.

Before we get there however we will tackle another Pyrenees monument, Col d’Aspin. From our hotel we have a great loop ride where we will ride from our hotel to summit Aspin from the West. Following our descent, we will ride into the Bagnères-de-Bigorre to watch the pros race to the first of the Pyrenees finishes.

Our hotel is only 40km away so we will ride back to enjoy a group dinner and share photos and stories of the incredible day.

Day 5

Pau Individual Time Trial

July 19, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 90km

Today it’ll be all about the race against the clock at the Tour de France – The Individual Time Trial.

Concluding breakfast we will set out towards Pau by bike. By now, your climbing legs will be primo so not to worry – we’ll be including a bit of ascent along the way! Col de Spandelles is a stunning, quiet road shaded by trees allowing an enjoyable climb away from the scorching heat. 16.2km long at an average of 5.9%, this Cat 1 is challenging but manageable and oh so enjoyable!

On arrival into Pau, we will ride along the TT route and set up roadside for a picnic to view the Stage. Perhaps another Dumoulin, Thomas, Froome battle?!

Following the Stage, we will ride or drive back to our accommodation where dinner will be at your leisure.

Day 6

Col du Tourmalet on Race day!

July 20, 2019 / Difficulty
/ Distance 70km

Today we will have an early start to set out in hot pursuit of the Col du Tourmalet and the Stage 14 Tour de France summit finish.

To warm the legs up, we’ve thrown in the Luz Ardiden mountain pass, famous for its countless hairpin turns and reaching up to 1720m in elevation. Come the top, you’ll be raring to go for the ever famous and truly iconic Tour de France favourite – The Col du Tourmalet.

At 2115m in elevation, it is officially the highest paved mountain pass in the French Pyrenees. The challenging ascent has made a prominent appearance throughout Tour de France history and will no doubt be providing yet another nail-biting, entertaining fight for Stage 14 honours atop.

We will be kicking back roadside at the top, anticipating who will conclude the day King of the Tourmalet! Enjoy the sensational Tour de France atmosphere and get ready to cheer on your favourite riders. 

Concluding the Stage, we will descend and ride back to our accommodation to enjoy a group dinner – recollecting what we trust has been an epic week in the Pyrenees!

Bon Voyage!

Following breakfast and checkout, we will transfer you to Tarbes before saying Bon Voyage. We trust you’ve had a fantastic tour with Mummu Cycling and hope to have you back with us again soon conquering more cols!
