Welcome to Barcelona! Stuey and your GreenEDGE Travel staff will meet you at Barcelona El-Prat Airport to begin your Inner Sanctum Tour. After a meet and greet we will drive north to our premium accommodation in the heart of Andorra to settle in while our mechanics build and set up your bikes if you are riding.
Early afternoon we will ride or drive to today’s Stage 19 finish in Andorra’s Naturlandia nature park where we will enjoy VIP Hospitality roadside on the approach to Coll La Rabassa’s mountain finish. This 13.2km climb at an average of over 7% will test the leaders before tomorrow’s penultimate stage and we will be there live to cheer on Estaban Chaves on his quest for Mitchelton-SCOTT’s first Grand tour victory.
Following the stage finish we will take the short 8km journey back to our hotel as a group where will get to know one another over dinner and enjoy some of Stuey’s stories from his time at La Vuelta.
Stage 20 Departure Village
This morning we will take our time to dust off last night’s vino before we walk 200m down the road to the Stage 20 Departure Village. As GreenEDGE Travel guests you will have access into the team bus area to meet Estaban Chaves and the rest of the team as they prepare for today’s 105km short but very tough stage.
With an accumulated inclination of almost 4000 metres spanning over 105km, the peloton will climb La Comella, Beixalis, Ordino, Beixalis, La Comella again and La Gallina all in one day!! Today will be the last chance for team Mitchelton-SCOTT to get Chaves on top of the podium.
After the stage departs, our riding guests will take the opportunity to ride through Andorra before meeting spectating guests at our exclusive roadside picnic lunch to cheer the team. On a high following the stage find we will head back to our hotel where your dinner will be at leisure in the heart of Andorra.
Girona Service Course
Today we leave the pros to travel alone to Madrid. Instead we will transfer to Mitchelton-SCOTT’s Spanish base in Girona. A favourite of many World Tour teams and riders, Girona offers cultural delights with historical treasures and access to fantastic, quiet training roads.
Once checked into our new accommodation we will head towards former GreenEDGE pro Christian Meier’s local bike shop, the Service Course to watch the final stage of the 2018 Vuelta a Espana with Christian and other GreenEDGE staff and celebrate the team’s success.
Tonight you will be free to enjoy the cobbled streets and local restaurants and bars until the early hours in true Spanish fashion.
Dinner with team Mitchelton-SCOTT
Our riding guests will have a treat today as Christian and Stuey lead us on a training ride from Girona through the Catalonia region. If you are up for it Stuey will give you some tips on how to climb and descend like a pro through the neighboring Pyrenees.
We will have you home early afternoon to freshen up and take some more time to explore this magical city. Take the afternoon to walk through the Jewish Quarter, visit the Catedral or just meander through the Forca Vella Roman fortress remains, Passeig Arqueològic walkway along the medieval city walls, the bisecting River Onyar, as well as a host of churches, museums and galleries.
Tonight will be the highlight of the trip where we will enjoy an exclusive dinner with riders and staff from team Mitchelton-SCOTT. We will hear stories from inside the peloton and how the tour unfolded and to spend time rubbing shoulders with the team. What a way to finish a fantastic tour.
This morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Our staff will then assist you with your transfer to Barcelona. We trust you’ve had a wonderful experience with GreenEDGE Travel and we hope to tour with you again soon!
